Located just outside downtown Raleigh, NC, Raleigh Iron Works is a vibrant mixed-use destination that seamlessly blends the city's industrial history with modern design. The development is centered around two historic buildings that were once part of Peden Steel. Originally constructed in the late 1800s in downtown Raleigh, the iconic Bow Truss Building was relocated to its current site in the 1950s. Shortly afterward, Peden Steel constructed the neighboring Double Gable Building. Today, these restored structures anchor a 19-acre campus featuring 219 luxury apartments, offices, event spaces, restaurants, a brewery, retail shops, and inviting outdoor gathering areas.
One of the most distinctive features of Raleigh Iron Works is its creative use of repurposed industrial materials throughout the landscape. Salvaged steel has been transformed into custom art installations, trellises, monuments, and planters that celebrate the site's manufacturing heritage. These elements are complemented by thoughtfully designed landscapes featuring native and drought-tolerant trees, shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, and vines that provide year-round beauty while supporting local wildlife.
The Bow Truss Building's interior courtyard showcases the original exposed steel framework, creating a striking outdoor space complete with comfortable seating and a gas fireplace. At the rear of the Double Gable Building, a second-story slide adds a playful and memorable experience for visitors and tenants alike.
Myatt Landscaping & Construction proudly provided the complete landscape installation for Raleigh Iron Works and continues to maintain the property. Our team includes a dedicated full-time horticulturist who specializes in the care of the site's diverse collection of native and ornamental plantings. Maintaining this landscape requires extensive horticultural expertise, as many of the species are uncommon in traditional commercial landscapes throughout the region.
